In 2007 RAE established a competitive art scholarship for art students from Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, VA. To support this community outreach program, RAE dedicated its main hallway as an art gallery to showcase the works of W&L’s most talented students. RAE collaborates with the art department of W&L to select photographs, paintings, sculptures, pottery, and drawings for this display. In addition to displaying the artwork, RAE also frames appropriate pieces for the participants. All visiting guests and clients to RAE corporate headquarters are asked to take time to view the gallery, and then vote on their three favorite pieces. At the end of the school year RAE tallies the votes and presents monetary awards to the three artists with the highest number of votes.
This year over 237 votes were cast, and the RAE 2010 Art Scholarship Award recipients are:
1st Place ($200) - Ryan Harding: “Bulldog” painting on canvas
2nd Place ($150) – Suzanne Matyas: “Night Owl” painting on canvas
3rd Place ($100) – Anand Singh: “Hindu Dancer” painting on glass
Thank you to all of the participating art students and teachers, and congratulation to the three finalists!
